What does hunger feel like? For many of us, it is a skipped breakfast, lunch, or dinner. But for millions of others, it is a constant battle for survival. But, we can work together so that hunger doesn’t have to win.
In response to this growing issue, a group of individuals came together to create Lovepacs, a non-profit in the Dallas-Fort Worth area dedicated to feeding children as an expression of love.
The Mission of Lovepacs
Many kids have reduced or free lunch prices at school, but what happens to them once school is out? Without free meals provided by the school, many children go hungry.
This is why they created Lovepacs, through a shared desire to help children in communities where they were not getting sufficient amounts of food. They aim to share God’s love by providing meals to students who struggle to obtain food during the school holidays.
Lovepacs Impact
This school year, many kids in Title-1 schools were given free or reduced lunches at school, and this is due largely to the great work done by the organization Lovepacs. This school year alone (2024-2025) Lovepacs shared over 1 million pounds of food to students and families in need, and that’s not all. They didn’t stop at just meals, sharing 250,000 individual snacks to the campuses that they serve.
If they’ve done so much in just one year imagine what they’ve been doing since they began! Since 2011, Lovepacs has served over 3.5 million meals. That’s 3 million individual, struggling people who were fed by the work of Lovepacs. 3 million people who would have missed yet one more meal without their help.
Long-lasting impact
Additionally, Lovepacs operates in 18 different communities. They serve over 280 schools in North and Central Texas, working in 11 school districts. These include Aubrey, Carrollton/Farmers Branch, Celina, Frisco, Gunter, Lake Dallas, Lewisville, Little Elm, Pilot Point, Plano, & Prosper! It’s amazing how they’ve managed to spread their love through so many different communities.
Lovepacs maximizes their efforts by ensuring that the food they provide is lasting. If food expires quickly, many families won’t be able to save it for long, which can be extremely damaging for someone with limited amounts of food. They make sure their food is easy to open for children to have whenever they need it, and they try making sure their meals don’t need to be cooked. Sometimes we just need a quick snack, and don’t want to go through the process of cooking a full meal.
Getting Involved
Lovepacs continues to prosper due to the support extended by volunteers worldwide. Over 5,000 people volunteer with Lovepacs annually, and due to their help in just this past school year, over $1.3 million of food were shared. This is a lot of food, but it isn’t going to be enough to support the growing amounts of children without food. Without our help, many kids will go hungry over the holidays.
Volunteer with Charities2Love to support Lovepacs
Charities2Love has an opportunity to volunteer with Lovepacs in October, packing boxes of food for their mobile pantry and putting them in cars. This food will then be given to the children who are struggling from a lack of food this summer. Join us for this impactful volunteer opportunity!
Uplifting Hearts
Ms. Norton, a teacher, mentioned, “these are kids I see every day that are hungry, always looking for a snack, asking for extra. You have made a big difference in the lives of our children!”
One meal can bring comfort and warmth. It can bring relief to families who have been struggling to provide sufficient food. One meal can make a difference. Their commitment to feeding children during school breaks doesn’t just fill stomachs; it uplifts spirits and reminds families that they’re not alone, one lovingly packed box at a time.
