Our Story

Hello and welcome! My name is Maitry and I love all things volunteering!

What I have learned over the 25+ years as a volunteer coordinator and avid volunteer is that there are so many ways to give your time and talents to charities who need them.  So why is finding out about these opportunities so difficult?

In my experience it’s because people either don’t know where to start looking, are overwhelmed with the amount of information on a charity’s website, or believe that volunteering will be too time-consuming and complicated.

After years of sharing my personal experiences with friends and family about the needs of different charities and coordinating many volunteering events, the idea for Charities2Love was born. What started as an initiative is now a non-profit! My husband, Urmesh, and I hope that learning about incredible charities and participating in our fun and educational volunteer events inspires you to go make your impact!

About me

I have called India, Connecticut, and Houston home before moving to North Texas in 1996. I have recently completed 5 years of service as a CASA of Tarrant County in Fort Worth, and 6 years as a volunteer coordinator for a large spiritual organization in Dallas-Fort Worth. Urmesh and I are grateful for all of the opportunities for Seva (“selfless service” in Sanskrit) at charities worldwide with our 2 incredible children, Jaina and Dilan. Our most cherished family volunteer opportunity is hosting a 5K run in 2015. We are thankful that 275+ attendees and countless volunteers joined us to raise $17,000 to benefit a local nonprofit called Camp Sol. Relive the memories with us here: Heart & Sol 5K Run.

I graduated with my pharmacy degree from the University of Houston 30+ years ago. I am blessed to have 2 amazing sets of parents. My mother is my role model, and I’ve watched her my entire life give wholeheartedly with pure love to every person she has encountered. My father was the first from his village in India to immigrate to the US in 1970, and he selflessly helped all of his and my mother’s family immigrate and settle in America as well. I aspire to embody their spirit of service and kindness.

But this labor of love has only come to life due to the unwavering support and idea for the blog by my sweet sis Pri, my cheerleaders Bhav/Hem/Jai/Dil/Soum, and my husband Urmesh–who is truly the wind beneath my wings.
