Earth Day is a day dedicated to celebrating and protecting our planet. First celebrated in 1970 by EARTHDAY.ORG, Earth Day has grown into a global event with more than 190 countries participating. It’s a day to reflect on the impact we have on the environment and to take action to protect it. This year, Earth Day will be celebrated worldwide on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
About One Earth One Chance (OEOC)
One Earth One Chance (OEOC) is a local environmental nonprofit in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area with the motto: think globally, act locally. Founded on Earth Day 2019 by Geeta Menon, the organization started out as a conversation amongst like-minded friends who felt compelled to take action for the greater good of the planet. Their passion for the environment has carried their friendship to a new level.

What Does One Earth One Chance Do?
In a span of four years, they have banded together and accomplished so much. OEOC has planted 760 trees and shrubs in the DFW area with irrigation to ensure their survival, arranged litter cleanups in partnership with local parks and recreation departments, organized used clothing drives to divert gently used textiles away from landfills, and raised awareness about sustainable living. They raise funds for tree planting through community “art”reach events, individual donors, and corporate match donations.
OEOC Celebrates Earth Day 2023
For their 4th anniversary celebration, One Earth One Chance provided the funds to plant 50 trees at R.P. Brooks Park in Dallas, Texas on April 15, 2023. This was done in coordination with Dallas Parks and Recreation and Texas Trees Foundation, who provided the arborists and trees.
Charities2Love joined enthusiastic volunteers of all ages from One Earth One Chance and other local organizations who gathered at R. P. Brooks. The dedicated volunteers spent their entire Saturday morning planting trees in the park.
Before the tree planting event started, One Earth One Chance was asked to speak to the crowd and was credited by the city with providing the necessary funds to plant 50 trees. It costs $250 to plant one tree with irrigation laid to ensure they have suitable care after planting. OEOC’s funding was essential to the city’s plan to reforest this community space. The city stated that the trees will provide increased shade in just a few years.
Rama Volety from OEOC spoke to the group of volunteers to explain their mission and discuss all of the activities they organize throughout the year.
OEOC Is Just Getting Started
In addition to funding and volunteerism, OEOC undertakes a range of activities from awareness to advocacy. They organize tree plantings in the spring and fall, have awareness blogs, fundraising events, and sell green merchandise at public events.
They have many volunteer opportunities for families to get involved and participate together throughout the year. This local environmental nonprofit’s events are posted on their Facebook and Instagram pages. To learn more about them, please visit One Earth One Chance.
