This is the beginning of my journey to community service. As a first time volunteer with Charities2Love for their April volunteering event, I was astonished.
The goal of the event was to support Children in Crisis, and it was a collaboration they were having with Color Me SAFE Foundation. Both are local nonprofit organizations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that came together to bring awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is in April. Since I was not familiar with either organization or even the cause, I really did not know what to expect.
Learning about Charities2Love
It was surely an eye opening and heartwarming experience. I attended the event alongside my 8 year old daughter. I learned that Charities2Love has 2 main goals, which is to have local volunteer events to inspire people and to bring awareness to different charities. The event I attended was also celebrating their one year anniversary.
The organization is truly living up to its cause of spreading awareness of different charities. It opened up a whole new perspective in me, where I now know the importance of community service and just being aware of what is happening in our community.
Children in Crisis Volunteer Event
The volunteer event was so well organized with every minor detail taken care of throughout. During this event we hand wrote inspirational cards, created bracelets with supportive messages that were put in the bags, decorated personalized bags with notes and stickers, and finally packed each bag with many items that showed love and care for the kids that would receive them.
Awareness along with Volunteering
After the volunteering part was done is when the awareness part started. There were some speakers from local nonprofits to talk about Child Abuse Prevention and what it means. In addition, they provided information about the organizations that were receiving the bags and how much of an impact they would make to the kids that would receive them.
Influencing Young Minds through Volunteering
Having said that, my greatest take away is my daughter’s changed attitude. Since then, she has been more aware, more grateful and more involved. She is asking more questions about what is happening around her. It was an unexpected benefit of going to the event that day.
The experiences shared at the event by Charities2Love and Color me SAFE Foundation were heart touching and eye opening.
Let’s all make a difference together
Charities2love gave me much needed awareness and the opportunity to do my bit. I look forward to participating in future volunteer events. Little hands, big hands, small feet, big feet: let us all get together and do our part and make a bigger impact.
